A supranational organization is an entity made up of three or more separate states that join together based on mutual intentions and that create an administrative structure that works to achieve these goals. Right now there are over 60 major supranational organizations in the world with many smaller subgroups that tie along with the major ones. The first organization came after World War I in which the League of Nations was created from the wishes of Woodrow Wilson in order to create a forum in which problems can be discussed to prevent war. From there, even though it ended up in failure with the United States not joining, the idea of a multinational allegiance came into being and would lead to the numerous ones currently in place.

United Nations (UN)- It was formed after World War II and is currently the biggest supranational organization around with 193 states being part of it. The UN which serves as an international power that watches the actions of states in order to make sure human rights aren't abused and organizations are formed to further better the lives of the billions still currently in poverty and starvation
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)- A military alliance between Western European countries and US and Canada to ensure the national security of all countries involved. If one is attacked, then all other countries in the alliance come to its aid.
Warsaw Pact- Sometimes such organizations are created to counter another one, which is what happened when the USSR created the Warsaw Pact with other Eastern European countries to form an opposing force against the newly formed NATO. It was this rivalry that took place during the Cold War but ended with the end of the USSR in 1991.
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)- A subsidiary of the UN, it is a neutral forum in which developing and developed countries join together in an effort to end world hunger. It helps advance countries forestry, agriculture, and fishery practices in order to provide them with food security and independence.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)- Its purpose is to create international collaboration through education and culture in order to create a respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law. It designates heritage sites that are of significant natural or historical importance to an area that reveal their uniqueness and heritage.
World Health Organization (WHO)- Works to end diseases like AIDS and HIV across the globe and to obtain the highest possible level of health for the most people. It has numerous campaigns across the globe to promote better nutritional habits and to educate people on the importance of sanitation and overall health.
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)- An economically purposed organization, it removes tariffs between Canada, United States, and Mexico, creating freer trade between these states and helping economic growth.
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)- It consists of 12 countries across multiple continents who's goals are to stabilize oil prices and make sure the oil reserves are safeguarded for future necessities.
European Union (EU)- A political and economic union of 27 separate states that has created a single currency which allows easier trade and markets between these countries and a more unified authority which works together with foreign affairs. There are numerous smaller supranational organizations that are under the EU like the European Commission and the Court of Justice for the European Union which cover smaller issues but which still answer to the EU.
Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC)- 6 member nation organization that works for the free trade of goods in this region and a stronger ability to trade in the world markets. Equal rights and education are a few of the other goals they have set out to achieve in bringing about this agreement
